Fashion Finds and Coastal Views For The Perfect Day

Susan Galvin, owner of luxury resale shop Foxy Couture, authenticates the best stops from Carmel to Big Sur.
Like a Local

Before founding Foxy Couture, Carmel’s destination for designer resale, Susan Galvin spent years developing relationships with consignors around the globe. Traveling from San Francisco to Los Angeles to New York and beyond for vintage fashion shows and resale pop-ups, Susan’s keen eye for quality has become her trademark. Her Carmel consignment shop features a well-edited collection thanks to Susan’s selectivity — think mint condition Chanel, Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, plus ready-to-wear labels like Zimmerman, Vince and Veronica Beard. Our advice? Slip in for season staples like Chanel ballet flats, statement belts, and vintage Celine by Phoebe Philo — a fashion-girl favorite — or find your fringe, bows and 80s glam online. Foxy's stunning new ecommerce site is a design experience in itself. Discover more of Susan's picks below, from the best boutiques to live music musts.

Have breakfast with my husband, Mike, and our dogs at Stationæry. I can’t resist their coffee, so I always order one to-go, too. From there, walk down to Carmel Beach, so the dogs can run off-leash and we can soak in the ocean air and watch the waves.

Make my way through downtown Carmel and pop into a few boutiques to see what’s new. My favorites are Girl Boy Girl, Cos Bar, and Cayen Collection. I love gifting art and sustainable fashion (of course!), so I also check out The Carmel Art Association and Monica Graham Fine Art, among others, when holiday shopping.

Mike will head home with the dogs while I go to Monterey to see my daughter, Jo. We walk to Alta Bakery for lunch and, if the weather is nice, eat outside in the garden of the adjoining Cooper Molera Adobe.

Drive down the coast before sunset and hopefully miss traffic. Have a glass of wine on the patio at Nepenthe, while watching the sunset. I love taking visitors here as well.

*Editor’s note: Allow yourself an hour for the scenic drive between Monterey and Big Sur.

Enjoy dinner at Deetjens, then take in a show at Henry Miller Library, where, on my perfect day, my daughter, singer/songwriter Elise Leavy, will be playing. Then, head home under the stars.
