3 Yoga Studios to Move You

Lihi Benisty leads a dynamic blend of somatic practices—both privately and at wellness studios throughout California and internationally — to help her clients build emotional resilience and inner confidence. Her teaching approach fosters self-inquiry through breathwork, movement, sound, and other mediums, and she recently published her first book of poetry to deepen the themes she explores in her work. A regular guide at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, this summer, she’ll lead a two-day workshop there titled “The Self, Reframed: An Exploration Through Breath and Somatic Self-Inquiry” (July 4-6; join the waitlist at esalen.org or visit lihibe.com for info). So when we asked for her top three local wellness classes to try, she happily shared her favorite fellow teachers and studios to help you move through this summer with intention.

01
Village Yoga Santa Cruz
Puja Chance leads a powerful heated Vinyasa class at Village Yoga Santa Cruz that’s both grounding and energizing, weaving depth of presence with a sense of play in a steady, challenging flow.

Word of Mouth Yoga at The Village Big Sur
Word of Mouth Yoga is a sanctuary for movement and mindfulness at The Village Big Sur. It’s a space where you can slow down, move creatively and with intention, surrounded by nature and a sense of belonging. I love Jovinna Chan’s morning hatha class there.
Pleasure Point Sanctuary
Katie Jacobson teaches yoga at Pleasure Point in Santa Cruz with a calm, grounded energy. Her classes are thoughtful and steady, with space to explore breath, alignment, and a deeper sense of connection. Her Yin Yoga class is deeply nourishing and spacious. With her background in internal family systems, I feel genuinely held, seen, and supported just as I am.
