Nile Estep knows how to have a good time. First, the Carmel Valley native began his farmers’ market and event company, Good Roots, in 2015 (they now operate the Carmel-by-the-Sea Farmers’ Market). Then, Estep began revamping Hacienda Hay & Feed in Carmel Valley in 2021, turning it into a family-fun destination complete with line dancing, trivia, farm animal feedings, and year-round festivities. It continues to grow with gourmet country store Radici Market on-site, as well as ceramics workshop Clay + Kiln. As if that wasn’t enough to keep him busy, Estep puts giving back high on his priority list, helping with summer’s Concours for a Cause and Carmel Culinary Week events. “Being able to create and contribute to projects that not only bring value to our community but also nourish my soul is a true gift,” says Estep, who’s giving us his list for even more places to “gather and grow” through creative classes and workshops.

Progress Not Perfection Paint Parties

Progress Not Perfection Paint Parties offers more than just art workshops—owner Jessica Ansberry creates spaces where creativity, connection, and confidence thrive. Jess is the heart and soul behind this incredible business. She has a rare gift for making everyone feel seen, supported, and inspired in their artistic journey. Find their full schedule of art-inspired events for adults and kids—like watercolor workshops, wine glass painting, and art journaling—at pnppaintparty.com. Or, book a private party with anything from painting to pressed flowers to slime-making, and more.

Hacienda Carmel Valley

I’m inspired daily by the independent artisans in our Hacienda community. From ceramics and blacksmithing to sculpture, painting, regenerative farming, cultural celebrations, and dancing, we offer something for all ages and interests. I feel incredibly fortunate to work and collaborate with such talented creatives every day. Editor’s note: The current list of artisans and workshops is available on haciendacv.store, where you can sign up for upcoming events and experiences (the sand sculpture workshop with renowned sand artist, Rusty Croft, tops our summer list).

Monterey Museum of Art

I’ve attended many events at the Monterey Museum of Art and always love their offerings. From screen printing workshops with Chris Powers to ceramic art shows featuring Mark Tanous, they showcase a diverse range of creative experiences. It’s definitely a fantastic place to explore different art forms and discover ways to get involved! Browse their exhibitions and events—including sketching in the galleries and Lego camps for kids—at montereyart.org.
