3 Can’t-Miss Music Venues

For Seth Reese, music is a universal language. Deejaying under the name Luck Star, he regularly appears in places like Stationæry and Vin Wine Bar, among many others. After moving to the Monterey Peninsula four years ago—drawn by its natural beauty, creative energy, and close-knit community—Seth began adding his own touch to the ever-growing local music scene. He spins jazz, funk, world, R&B, and boogie at special events, carefully matching playlists to the ambience of each one and weaving together genres, moods, and cultures to create immersive experiences. (Bookings are available through his Instagram account @seth.boyardeeee.) Always on the hunt for inspiring new sounds to spark emotion and connection, Seth shares his top three favorite music venues to listen live while taking in scenic vibes.

Fernwood Campground & Resort
Fernwood has a laid-back, welcoming vibe that makes it an ideal spot for live music. I love the relaxed energy it brings to performances—it’s the kind of place where you can camp in their beautiful grounds then walk over to the cozy bar space to catch a show. There’s something magical about seeing incredible artists in an intimate, unpretentious setting. The lineup spans a wide range of genres, offering something new and exciting for every music lover.
02
The Henry Miller Memorial Library
The Henry Miller Library is a truly unique and special venue. Set beneath towering redwoods, its open-air setting creates an unforgettable, nature-infused music experience. It’s a place where performances feel deeply connected to the surrounding beauty of Big Sur, making each show feel inspiring. The venue hosts an eclectic mix of artists. One of the most memorable shows I experienced there was André 3000’s New Blue Sun tour—an evening where the ambient soundscape, thoughtful lighting, and natural surroundings came together perfectly.
The Village Big Sur
The Village is an incredible new venue nestled in the heart of Big Sur, offering an intimate atmosphere, outstanding acoustics, and breathtaking natural surroundings. Home to the acclaimed restaurant Solstice, it’s become a destination not just for great food, but for unforgettable music experiences. With its recent expansion into live performances, The Village hosts everything from electronic DJ sets to live musicians. Make sure to follow them on social media to know when the next show is.
Note: All of these venues collaborate with Folk Yeah. Check out their website and social channels for upcoming shows.
